In regards to the switching of the shafts, there very well could be a small difference in swing weight. Heavier and lighter shafts will produce different swings weights. Although they may not change drastically, you can expect a subtle change.

If the shafts are the same model, as the shaft gets longer, the swing weight will increase as well. This being said if you were to place a 40" shaft in a 24* 910H you can expect the swing weight to increase a point or two from standard.

To get an optimal swing weight that works for you, we currently have some 910 weight kits available for purchase. These weight kits include 2,5,7,9,12 gram weights that can easily be changed with the SureFit wrench. Please visit a local authorized Titleist retailer for more details on how to obtain one of these weight kits.

To answer your question about the cutting of shafts, each loft will have a shaft that is prepped differently. Depending on the length of shaft will have our team tip trim a certain amount and then butt trim to length.

Never mind that first question. Duh! Of course they're interchangeable. That's what I've been playing with; a 19° shaft in a 21° head. I need to think before I type. I guess a more refined version of the question would be, "Does swapping shafts like that mess up the swing weight and such?" There, that's better.

Here's an update. Even set to A4, I was hitting the 21° with 19° shaft too far, so I ended up buying a 24°. I received it yesterday so have some more experimenting to do. I have some follow up questions:

1 - Are the 910H shafts interchangeable, that is, can the shaft be pulled from a 24° and be installed in a 21°? I ask because I've learned that, at least in my case, loft has a far greater affect on distance than does shaft length. However I have more control with a shorter shaft.

2 - In regards to cutting one of these shafts. I compared the 3 that I have now. 17°, 19° and 24°, all stiff 'Ahina 90 hyb. They measure 40.5", 40" and 39" from the butt of the grip to the tip of the SureFit adapter respectively. Laid side by side, with the butt ends lined up, the graphics on all 3 shafts line up. That tells me that, to achieve proper playing length, Titleist cuts these entirely from the tip, or possibly cuts a common length from the butt then cuts the rest from the tip. Please confirm whether either theory is correct or not.

In regards to the 21* you may see a small decrease in yardage due to the cutting of the shaft. I can not imagine it being a sigificant decrease though. As Matt as alluded to in order to make it play to a "true flex" the shaft must be tipped and then butt cut to length. This will allow the shaft to play to the proper standard length of 40". If you require the shaft to be cut, I would recommend taking the club to a local Titleist authorized retailer and have them send the club in. Our repair team will be able to perform all the work needed to get the club to your desired specs.

Thanks Matthew. I thought it would be a little more involved than just cutting the butt. Nope, I'm nowhere near the GTA. I'm in the Soo, although I do have a good local club maker I can use. I'm golfing in Michigan this coming weekend, so may just pick up a 24°. Thanks again.

Hopefully Ryan can chime in here but I would think the 21* hybrid shaft would be tipped either 1/4" or 1/2" more than the 19* so yes you would still be able to do it but to make it play true to flex you may need to tip it a little which is not hard to do and any qualified club maker could do it. I know it sounds like I was rambling there...well, I was. LOL! A quick yes/no answer to my original question will suffice, that is, does cutting the 40.5" 19° 910h 'Ahina shaft 1/2 inch make it a proper 40" shaft for the 21° head?

For those not interested in reading my previous ramblings, I'll summarizing here: I bought a 21° and 17° 910h to replace 24° 4 iron, 21° 3 iron and 18° 5 Wood, spanning 180 - 225 yds. I thought we confirmed yardages on the launch monitor but in real life I think the 24° is flying too far. I still have to do some range testing to be sure. The 21° has the shaft from a 19°. I'm considering cutting it. Is that reasonable or should I just buy the 24°?

Anyone?
