A fitting will show you the most suitable shafts for your game.. if they happen to be an exotic option then it is what it is. The stock shafts are high quality and will suit most people so it will come down to budget and personal choice.

For my iron fitting the NS Pro Modus 3 130 X-stiff was the shaft that worked for my game, its listed as exotic.

For my TS3 F the Evenflow T1100 X-stiff was ideal for my game, this is listed as a stock shaft.

I play Graphite Design AD-DI shafts in my driver, 3 and 5 woods. While I don't think of them as exotic, Titleist lists them as "Exotic" on the custom options shaft list.

The best thing to do as always is get fit. If the fitting results yield an upcharge shaft and you feel the additional cost is worth it then go for it. If not then ask the fitter if there is a non-upcharge version that would be very close performance wise.

Several years ago I asked a PGA teaching pro this same question and his reply was that club manufacturers have R&D guys that spend many hours matching those "stock" shafts to the club heads in terms of performance. He said that certain players would see benefits of aftermarket shafts but for most golfers, the stock offering (or one of the 4-7 stock offerings in this case) would likely suit their game. His opinion may certainly have changed with all of the great shaft options available now (along with swing data from modern launch monitors) but that was his reply.

This is like a Toyota-Lexus debate. None of the shafts offered are "for Titleist". Most would be $2-300+ at retail if purchased as a stand-alone. So these shafts are not otherwise rejects or poor performers. At the amateur level, being able to afford an exotic shaft is just as important as the performance. If you can afford it and perceive benefit, get it.
