Most of the time I only hit 18-20 full swings, then over to the putting green before I get to the tee. For me, stretching though is necessary. If not those first few swings are rough, and the next day I'll be sore.

Dale, I agree with your 80% take and that Im all for recreational golfers simply wanting to hang w/friends. I find the social aspect of the game to be a top priority - top 5 for sure, maybe even top 3. And yes, every time I meet someone on the course that says something akin to "Im new to golf..." I always advise them to go see the local teaching pro.

RE: Video
Derek, I'll go out on a limb and say, even if the masses wanted to see a video of themself, most would not know what to look for, what was good, or what needs changing. Also, video yourself is at a level of commitment that I don't see from most of the people that show up to golf that I see on the course anyway. Many golfers won't go get a basic lesson. They show up to the course, and just want to get to the first tee as quickly as possible. It seems most don't even hit a bucket before they go play a round of golf. Shoot, in my last round, I was taking a few minutes to stretch while waiting to tee off and a guy in my group asked why I was stretching.
I know what you mean

I certainly stretch before hitting anything on the course or the range but too be honest I only hit a few on the range before playing as I warm up on the chipping green etc

A guy I play with does video my swing as he says I am a complete golfer and he sends me them

RE: Video

Like all sports, there are various levels of players. Some play for the enjoyment of the game and others aspire to play at the highest level. If a casual golfer wants to go out and play every weekend and shoot high scores but hang out with his/her buddies I think that's great. Just play fast and don't be disruptive to others. Video is a great tool but probably irrelevant to 80% of the golfers out there. Sessions from a good pro is still the best way to go for those wanting to improve.

RE: Video

Derek, I'll go out on a limb and say, even if the masses wanted to see a video of themself, most would not know what to look for, what was good, or what needs changing. My ball flight tells me how my swing is doing as well as my balance at the finish. I'll hit a few fades, draws, high and low trajectory shots. Not saying videos are not helpful, but after 60 years of playing this great game ,before videos and rangefinders, I keep my handicap under 10.
But that's fine because you have been playing a long time and know your swing

I know my swing

Just don't see people who struggle to hit the ball use video as it may show them the issues

RE: Video

I've set up my phone a few times to take videos when I'm working on something in particular or when I want to send a video to a swing coach to review. I use a phone holder that attaches either to my bag or to an alignment stick that works pretty well. Otherwise, like Dino, I rely on my over 60 years of playing and an occasional group session with the local pro to help me straighten out problems. I am on the range mostly for warm-up prior to a round, unless I have been having some specific issues. Warm-ups are about 25-30 swings maximum, so setting up a camera is simply too much work.

RE: Video

In all honesty Gary, I hit a few dozen shots before a round, usually 5 irons.
