Sungjae Im Cards Nine Birdies on Sunday to Win the Shriners Children's Open

PGA TOUR | Shriners Children’s Open

Titleist Brand Ambassador Sungjae Im made nine birdies – including eight during a 10-hole stretch – Sunday on his way to a final-round 9-under 62 and four-shot victory in Las Vegas. It was his second win on the PGA TOUR.

  • Playing a Pro V1x golf ball and 14 Titleist clubs, including a TSi2 driver and T100 irons, the 23-year-old from South Korea led the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (+10.49), while hitting 62 of 72 (86.1%) greens in regulation (ranking second).
  • Im hit 17 of 18 greens both Friday and Sunday at TPC Summerlin. He also led the field in Scrambling (90%).
  • Im played the first, second and final rounds without a bogey, and totaled 26 birdies for the week.
  • Last season, Im broke the PGA TOUR record for birdies-or-better with 513.
  • PGA TOUR rookie and fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Hayden Buckley picked up his second Top 10 finish in just three starts, following up last week’s T-4 at Sanderson Farms with a final-round 63 in Vegas to finish T-8.

SUNGJAE ADDS NEW T200 3-IRON

  • Sungjae Im added a NEW T-Series T200 (Utility Build) 3-iron to his bag in Las Vegas after working with Titleist’s Director of Players Promotions J.J. Van Wezenbeeck Monday afternoon on the range at TPC Summerlin. Im had previously been using a T100 3-iron.
  • “As we were working through his lie angles, moving up through the bag, we got to his 3-iron, and it was just flying a little bit too low and the ball speed gapping off his 4-iron wasn’t quite there,” Van Wezenbeeck said. “We built him a T200 3-iron and he saw the ball speed increase, the launch increase, the land angle increase and the gapping fit better. He took it out to the course on Tuesday and said it provided a bunch of shots that he didn’t have before.”
  • Since their debut late last season, NEW T200 (Utility Build) models have quickly become the most popular utility iron on the PGA TOUR.

LPGA | Cognizant Founders Cup

Playing a Pro V1 golf ball, World No. 2 Jin Young Ko completed a wire-to-wire, four-shot victory – her 10th-career LPGA win – while tying the tour’s record for consecutive rounds in the 60’s.

  • Her final-round 5-under 66 was her 14th-straight round of 69 or better dating back to the final round of the Amundi Evian Championship (69-69-67-69-68-66-67-66-65-69-63-68-69-66).
  • Ko, who opened the week with an 8-under 63, hit 60 of 72 (83%) greens.
  • Ko has now won three times in her last six LPGA starts, joining Titleist Brand Ambassador Nelly Korda as the season’s only three-time winners.
  • Over her last 21 rounds, Ko has a 67.9 scoring average and is 68 under par.
  • Ko led a 1-through-11 finish for Titleist golf ball players.
  • Of the 27 events played this season on the LPGA, 23 have been won by Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x players.

WORLD NO. 2 ON A ROLL WITH SCOTTY CAMERON PHANTOM X 5.5

The winner of the Cognizant Founders Cup claimed her second LPGA title and fourth top-6 finish in four starts since putting a Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5 putter in play.

  • The World No. 2 switched to the Phantom X 5.5 from a competitive mallet model following a fitting session with Scotty Cameron fitter Eric Kong in Korea, where she took an extended break after a T-9 finish at the Olympics.
  • She debuted her new Phantom X 5.5 – inspired by the putter Justin Thomas has used for 13 of his 14 PGA TOUR wins – several weeks later at the Cambria Portland Classic, where she needed only 78 putts over 54 holes (1.44 average) on her way to a four-shot win.
  • This week in New Jersey, she averaged 1.58 putts (114 total) while again topping the field by four shots.
  • “I changed this putter five or six weeks ago in Korea, and I use this putter four weeks in a row from the Portland and here. I got two wins with this putter and two top-10s, so, yeah, I think I will love this putter (smiling),” she said.

WORLD NO. 2 PLAYS TSi DRIVER, EIGHT NEW TITLEIST CLUBS

The winner of the Cognizant Founders Cup had a total of nine Titleist clubs in the bag, eight of which she put into play for the first time four weeks ago in her win at the Cambria Portland Classic.

  • Having worked with Titleist fitters in Korea following the Olympics, the World No. 2 added two TSi2 fairways (15.0°, 18.0°), two TSi2 hybrids (21.0°, 24.0°), three Vokey Design SM8 wedges (50.08F, 52.08F, 58.06K) and a Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5 putter to the bag.
  • Earlier this season – at the KIA Classic in late March – she put a Titleist TSi3 11.0° driver into play, making a mid-tournament switch from a competitive model.
  • Following the first round of the KIA Classic, played at Aviara GC in Carlsbad, Calif., she made the short drive to the Titleist Performance Institute in nearby Oceanside to test the TSi models.
  • It took no more than 30 minutes for her to get dialed in to a TSi3 11.0° driver with a Graphite Design IZ 5R shaft (45”), while working with Titleist fitters Aaron Luttrell and Nick Geyer.
  • The new setup, which she put into play for Round 2, delivered added ball speed with a more optimal spin number for increased carry distance.
  • Over the final three rounds that week, she averaged 264 yards off the tee, 12 yards longer than her Round 1 average.

EUROPEAN TOUR | Acciona Open de Espana

Titleist Brand Ambassador Rafa Cabrera Bello rolled his Pro V1x golf ball in from 11 feet for birdie on the second hole of a playoff to claim his fourth European Tour victory.

  • Playing a full bag of Titleist equipment, including a TSi3 driver, 620 MB irons, Vokey Design SM8 wedges and a Scotty Cameron putter, Bello birdied Nos. 13, 14 and 15 Sunday to tie the lead before forcing the playoff with a spectacular sand save on 18 for a closing 2-under 69.
  • He posted four rounds in the 60’s, including middle rounds of 65-64, making 23 birdies over the 72 holes of regulation, while finishing third in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (+2.44).
  • Said Bello: “It was definitely one trophy that was on my bucket list. To join my name to all those champions. This week I've trusted myself again. I found a way to believe in myself and I had the amazing support of the crowd that was rooting for me and that really helped me keep going.”

  • The win also earned Sugiyama a spot in the PGA TOUR’s upcoming ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP, which will be played in two weeks in Japan.
