  1. I’m almost 80 and need more distance off the tee!

For what you give up off the tee, you may suffer in shots not staying off the greens or putts not feeling good. My suggestion would be just play the tees that match your distance and enjoy the game.
  3. It isn't always the ball that gives you distance are you using the correct shaft for your swing
Have a club fitting and you may find some extra distance

I’m only 73 but hope to continue to not move to the forward tees. Off the rack clubs are but a distant memory. I don’t have exotic shafts but neither are they stocked at golf stores.
As an old dog, I still try to learn new tricks. If you are serious about gaining distance off the tee, see if you can find a certified TPI instructor to assess your physical abilities/limitations. There may be stretches and strengthening that can bring back some pop to your swing. It has helped me.
  5. The Tour Soft might be worth a look sir

Agree with Bill and Dale. I am shy of 77 and am not ashamed of moving up to enjoy the game. I see everyday golfers playing from the wrong tees, afraid to make the move. The Tour Soft golf ball is great for those have a slower swing speed but great distances. Having good equipment that fits your swing is a good start and playing from the appropriate tees. After coming back from a five month lay off for my back I was so happy yesterday to shoot 88. Actually hit the ball 240 yards off the tee. Missed a lot of birdie putts. Most guys our ages hit their drives around 190 yards, so moving up puts us into better position to get the ball on the green. So if you move up to the Red tees and the hole is 310 and you hit your drives 190 your nest shot should be 120 to the green. Enjoy this crazy game. I try to play 5500 yard tracks.
  7. you would be shocked how far the left dash goes with a slower swing speed.....its the longest ball for slow swing speeds in the MGS test.

Played the left dash for a while and then when the 388 white boxes came out and I tested those babies, I found not really a new friend. I had always played the Prov1 and the 388 protos were the 2023 Prov1s. At my age and swing speed, around the low nines find that that ball is perfect for me. The accuracy and distance is awesome and i traded in three dozen in for the new Prov1s. Guess we all have the try other balls until we find what works best for us or go back to what we were using. The Prov1 is the most penetrating ball in the lineup. My PT and Instructor have been working with me on my swing and have slowed it down a bit and it has really helped me make better contact with the ball and feel the ball is traveling on a better flight pattern. Even hit 260 this week. Not bad for a old fart. Now need to work on the consistency with the irons.

If someone wants a Titleist ball based on pure distance, suggest they take a look at the Velocity, they are designed for distance. Hit them once or twice in the past, they are long, but I cannot control them into the greens. Also they are the lesser expensive of the Titleist golf balls.
  9. Luckily I still hit the ball a long way but in all honesty I would sacrifice a little distance for better accuracy

The 2023 prov1 and prov1x are superb in my opinion
  10. The ProV1 and ProV1x may not be as long as the AVX, Tour Soft and other lower flighted and less spinning balls. IMHO

If someone’s ever fitting for a golf ball, go from the green back. The golf balls start to perform pretty similar off the driver, so if there’s very little difference off the driver, it matters more how a ball reacts on a green. Hitting it 2 yards further isn’t going to lower anyone’s score, hitting it closer to the hole will. If we’re looking for distance off the driver, the correct shaft and head fitting with a some technique is where we will find it.

I agree with many on this post. I played the AVX for several years, just because it gave me a bit more distance off the tee and with my mid irons. I tried the new ProV1 and WOW, it is incredible! A couple of yards shorter with driver and mid irons, but miles ahead of the AVX from 100 yards and into the green!

Might have to do with level of play and swing speed. Saw a recent review that Prov1x left dash led all brand golf balls in distance with 115 mph swing speed.

Found the article by MyGolfSpy. They used a robotic swing machine to test various balls and here are the results by brand.
The test parameters they used were as follows:

    Driver: PXG 0311 Gen 6 7.5*
    Swing speed: 115 mph
    Launch angle: 10.5
    Calibration spin target: 2500

    Results:

    1. Titleist Prov1x left dash 348.0 yds
    2. Titleist Prov1x 346.0 yds
    2. Miuno RB Tour X 346.0 yds
    4. Vice Pro Plus 345.1 yds
    5. srxn Z-Star Diamond 344.8 yds
    5. cally Chrome Soft X 344.8 yds
    7, Bridgestone Tour B X 344.0 yds
    7. PXG Xtreme 344.0 yds
    9. LA GOLF La Golf Ball 343.6 yds
    9. Vice Pro Zero 343.6 yds

    * TM was included in the test but was last in distance with 328.8 under these conditions. These are the top ten of all the balls they tested.

Yeah Chuck, I hit my ProV1x 346 yds the other day. Made a 4 on that hole. 225, then 120, then 1, then 0.

Left Dash is the furthest golf ball on the planet. It's not close

The original poster is almost 80, so his club head speed may approach his age. In a fitting this summer and a driver speed under 90. It was obvious that I needed far more spin than the left dash gave me.
No argument that for higher swing speed golfers, the dash is an option. Just that there is no one ball that is best for all golfers. If I had to pick the most versatile, I’d have to vote for the V.

I play the senior tees, the game is hard enough as it is, and I won't let my ego dictate how I play it, lol. That said, for me all balls go pretty much the same distance off the tee. I've never found one that was like WOW!
