This is probably something I should already know but what is the difference between balls with black vs. red numbers? Compression?

Back in the last century, in the pro series, it did. One was 100 compression, the other 90. Pro-V1x, NXT Tour, and DT Truesoft have red numbers. Pro-V1 and NXT Tour -S are black. Velocity is orange.

    Hi Jim,
The black numbers are the Pro V1 and the red numbers are the Pro V1x. I'd like to hear what others have to say, but my top line reasons why you should choose one or the other are below (per Titleist).

Pro V1 - Softer feel, slightly more long game spin and a more penetrating trajectory for a shallower angle of descent for more roll than Pro V1x.

Pro V1x - Slightly firmer feel and lower long game spin and launches higher with a steeper angle of descent than Pro V1.

    Hopefully this is accurate.

RWhite, compression rating went out the door when wound balls were replaced with solid balls. You will not find those numbers anymore and color of the numbers is only designed to help you know which ball type you are playing when you can't see the actual model name. Pick the ball most suited for your game using the on-line fitting tool or just through trial and error. Dont worry about the color of the number.
  7. I found a Pro V1 with a red number. Is this rare or not?

Could it be pink? ProV1x are red numbers and ProV1 are black with the exception of some special issue breast cancer awareness balls that have been made available on a limited basis the last couple of years.
