I started about three years ago next to Bay Hill in Orlando. Only had one real lesson on mechanics — everything else self-taught. I’m around a 8 handicap on average, usually shoot 84 when I’m just out there, and around 79 when I prep my mind and body right.

My 8-iron carries about 150 on GC3 (162 with roll).

I’m thinking about trying Project X LZ 5.5 shafts to match my smooth tempo. I grew up playing tennis, and for whatever reason I’ve always hit compact, thin-profile heads better. I actually started with my dad’s old Japanese-forged Maruman blades (regular steel) and kind of learned the game through those.

So now I’m torn between T250s with LZ 5.5s or just going all-in on 620 MBs.

Anyone been in a similar spot? Would love some thoughts on which route makes more sense.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are making great progress. Pretty common for folks coming from other sports where hand-eye coordination is essential. Let me recommend you consider doing an official fitting with a good, certified fitter. Not only will they help get you into the right model, they will be able to get you into the right shaft and adjust for any length or lie changes that will fit you more naturally. Hopefully you continue to enjoy this game of a lifetime. Best wishes.
