I've been playing the game for a long time (40+ years) and I had my first ever ace last week (9/17/2025) on a 163 yard hole (7th at Ventura CC in Orlando). Water all down the left and out of bounds down the right, more often than not I have incurred a penalty of some description when playing this hole.
It was the strangest feeling. It was early morning, so the sun was low in the sky and it was difficult to see clearly. The 7th green is a two tier green, higher at the front running down to the back, and I thought at first the ball had rolled past the hole to the lower tier as I couldn't see it. One of my playing partners said that he thought it had gone in the hole but I wasn't convinced. A part of me knew, but I've been close quite a few times and I didn't want to get my hopes up only to have them dashed (yet again) with a near miss.
As I reached the green and the lower tier came into view, it became apparent there was no ball and I felt my heart beat a little harder as it dawned on me the ball must be in the hole. As I looked in the hole and saw the ball I was strangely numb and didn't really know how to react. Thankfully one of the group knew and took a photo but it was not the pose beside the flag holding my ball kind just me with a confused look on my face and a cheesy grin. I'll know what to do the next time :-).
