How many carry over your passion for golf to the lawn?

I am sure I am not the most passionate but I do have the nicest lawn in the neighborhood.

Thinking about adding a small putting green in back lol
  3. Military
That is a good thing to have the best!
  4. I will normally have a few practice swings on the lawn and occasionally a few short chip shots

Mainly to see how I feel before heading to the course
  5. Military
My swing has a personality disorder and I try not to confuse it what home swings before a round lol. She might feel great at the house then terrible at the course. So I just show up hit a few range balls and wing it lol.

All rock desert landscape here in the Phoenix area but I do hope to add an artificial grass putting green in the backyard next year.

Nice yeah we are in similar climates and growing grass and keeping it green with not as much water is challenging.

Right here! I live in Florida which has a much longer warm season which is great for working on my zoysia lawn!

I envy you and Florida. I do like my bermuda though. I live in west Texas so it takes a little bit of attention to detail to get the yard just right but I have it down to a science. Love the instant gratification after laying some sweet stripes.

I have been known to hit some chips and wedges around our one acre property but found it beneficial to utilize a small square of carpet as a tee box to avoid the ire of our club General Manager, my wife.
  11. I use my lawn to practice set up and swinging
  12. Military
I do too. I try not to hit the grass though lol. Always do what I call a "golf test". It is where I video me rolling a ball and send it to my dad. He has ST Augustine and can't get that golf course lawn.

Filling them with sand on bermuda is always a fast repair.

The home we lived in ‘90-‘03 had a look of a fringe and a green in our front lawn. When I added a flag in the middle of the green, the neighbor kids brought their plastic clubs and played it.
Years later, these kids would ask their parents to put a green in front of their lawn also.
Although our street was not in the best location, these kids could play shots from three different front lawns.
    Then a window was broken.
    Then a car..
It was the end for the kids to play the front lawn.
They would all sign up for the jr. league without knowing real golf. But then they all have had a good golf inspirations and they now play golf regularly. Best I heard was one of the kids won the local championship, signed up to Q for US Open but sadly didn’t make it.
Nowadays, back to our place, a crew comes around once a week and I never have to worry about cutting my lawn! I love the extra day I can drive up to play golf myself :-)

Sounds like a great experience for the kids. I try my hardest to get mine interested in golf. He has not quite taken the bait yet. I wish Titleist would make some Jr clubs so he can have the same clubs as dad.

Gave up on trying to fix the lawn years ago. Four boys that practice golf on the lawn......

I hear you there. I was guilty as a kid of smashing divots in my yard as well. If my son got to where he was doing it I would just sit out some sand and have him fill them. It would help with top dressing over time I suppose lol.

Last summer I was a little nutty about the yard. Mowed 3 times every week to keep everything nice and tight. I have a long way to go to get it where I want it but it has been a major improvement over the mess the builder left.

This year gets a major leveling/topdress, a merciless attack on poa annua, and possibly a total kill to switch over to Zenith Zoysia.
  21. Military
Yeah I just got a Allett Sitrling and have been going nuts! really enjoy it. I have a smaller yard so I mow 4 times a week and just smile as the neighbors ask if it is turf. Once it is fully green I will post a picture. Have to top dress this year as well and not looking forward to that.

A few pitches over the drive way before going out; if i hit the driveway I have to chase it down the street. This has helped me follow through on those short chips, I do not like to run after a ball!
  23. Military
Lol nothing like real consequences to get you to follow through! Not a bad little trick!

I spend as little time on my lawn as possible - rather be at the course appreciating the beautifully manicured fairways!
  25. Military
I try to bring a manicured fairway to my front lawn lol. I make it to the course as much as possible as well.

Lawn nut checking back in! My new Earthwise reel mower just showed up and I’m excited to cut my yard this summer. Right now I’m cutting it around .5 inch but with this new reel mower I’ll be able to take it down to a .25 of an inch. I also just did my soil test for the year and I’m sending that off to the lab to see what my yard is lacking. I have some bare spots here and there that are driving me crazy. But now that we’re getting up to mid 70s to 80 degrees during the day I’m hoping I can get those spots to grow in with a little TLC.

I have a fescue lawn in the south. It looks amazing right up until mid summer and then the battle begins to keep it sustained until fall…

I started reel mowing my lawn in the spring of 2021. The obsession began with a 25" McLane with a grooved front roller (instead of roller wheels). In August of '21, I purchased a John Deere 220A greens mower. I maintain my front lawn about 6,500 sq. ft. of hybrid Bermuda (not sure which cultivar) at anywhere between 5/8" to 3/4". Like it has been said above, it is a labor of love, but it does make for a good short game practice area. As long as you don't mind a few divots every now and then.

I did before I moved. My water bill doubled when I moved to a new place. I had the nicest lawn in my neighborhood. I really miss it. I think I will just go rock and turf this spring.
