A CLOSER LOOK AT CAM SMITH'S NEW SETUP?

Cam Smith is always interested in new equipment, and he truly gets excited talking about what Titleist will come out with next, but according to Titleist Director of Player Promotion J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, “performance is always at the top.”

  • That was the case with the new Pro V1x golf ball. In the three events Smith played with the new Pro V1x prior to his runner-up performance at the Masters, he finished T24 at Shriners, solo 11th at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek, and T4 at the Zozo Championship @ Sherwood.
  • Smith’s early feedback after first testing the ball at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open consisted of: “In my first practice round with the New Pro V1x, I started with three straight birdies. Then I opened with four straight birdies in the second round. That’s good enough for me to put it straight into play this week.”
  • Smith also converted to the New TSi3 driver the first week he had the opportunity at this year’s U.S. Open. Smith tested the new drivers with Van Wezenbeeck at TPC Sawgrass following the TOUR Championship. According to Van Wezenbeeck, Smith moved from Titleist TS2 (10.5°) into a New TSi3 (10.0°) “and saw instant performance improvements.”
  • “Cameron always preferred the TS3 shaping, but was getting better launch and spin control with the TS2,” Van Wezenbeeck said. “When he started testing the New TSi3, we moved him into the PX HZRDUS Smoke Yellow 60 and immediately saw the higher launch, increased speed and added stability he was seeking. When we were done, he was prepared and had the confidence to put the new driver in play at the U.S. Open.”
  • Smith also transitioned into the TSi2 fairway (15.0°) at the U.S. Open, which again provided him the easier and higher launch he likes. Van Wezenbeeck moved his CG slightly toe biased and one setting flatter.

EQUIPMENT DOMINANCE:

Titleist was the #1 choice at the Masters from tee-to-green in six major equipment categories, including golf ballsdriversfairwayshybridsutility irons, irons and wedges.

  • With 29 Titleist drivers in play, the breakdown included 23 New TSi (19 TSi3, 3 TSi2, 1 TSi4) models, more than all the other brand totals combined of any competitor.
  • There were a total of NINE non-agreement players who made Titleist their driver of choice at the year’s final major, including four of the six amateurs in the field.
  • The driver count win marks the first time in 20 years (since 2000) that Titleist was the most played driver at The Masters.
  • The two amateurs that made the weekend play a Titleist golf ball and trust Titleist equipment throughout the bag.
